Fishing Charters in Everglades City

A small fishing village at the edge of the Ten Thousand Islands — and one of the best backcountry launch points in Florida.

A Town Built Around Fishing

Everglades City is small by design. Once the county seat of Collier County, it has stayed a working fishing town rather than growing into a resort destination — stone crab boats and fishing guides still make up much of the local economy. That character is part of what makes it a good place to start a charter: quiet streets, a real marina, and none of the crowds you'd find closer to Naples or Miami.

The Rod & Gun Club sits at the center of it. The building dates back to the early 1900s as a hunting and fishing lodge, and it's still where most charters in town meet their guides today, A2 Fishing Charters included.

Launching Straight Into the Ten Thousand Islands

From the dock, it's a short run into the Ten Thousand Islands — a maze of mangrove islands, oyster bars, and tidal creeks that stretches along the Gulf Coast. Because the water is largely protected from open Gulf swell, the ride out is calm even when conditions offshore aren't, which matters for first-time anglers and families.

That geography also shapes how a trip is fished. Some days call for sight-fishing skinny flats between islands; others call for working structure around creek mouths and points where tidal current concentrates baitfish. Knowing which is which on a given day, in a given season, is most of what separates a good trip from an average one.

Seasonal Fishing Around Everglades City

Winter (December–February): Cooler, clearer water pulls sheepshead and trout tight to structure, and reds push into skinny backcountry flats where they're easier to spot.

Spring (March–May): A transition stretch — snook and redfish turn on as water warms, and the first tarpon start showing up along the coast.

Summer (June–August): Peak tarpon season, with aggressive snook fishing to match. Afternoon storms are common this time of year, so trips typically start early.

Fall (September–November): Cooling water reinvigorates the backcountry, and redfish and trout fishing picks back up heading into winter.

Getting to Everglades City

Everglades City sits roughly an hour southeast of Naples and about two hours west of Miami and Fort Lauderdale via the Tamiami Trail (US-41). It also serves as a gateway to the Gulf Coast side of Everglades National Park, so it's a natural stop whether fishing is the whole trip or one part of a larger Everglades visit.

For early AM departures, plan to arrive in town the night before rather than driving in the morning of — it makes for a far more relaxed start to the day.
